but u can never leave!"但你永远无法离去!现在可能没有几个人不知道Hotel California(加州旅店),这首上世纪最著名的流行音乐作品之一,造就了一大批Hotel California的超级fans。可能是这首单曲太有名了,风头甚至盖过了它的创造者"老鹰乐队"。他们的这首不朽名曲吉他的前奏和间奏非常非常动听。GUITARIST杂志在98年1月由读者选出史上最佳的100曲吉他SOLO中 Hotel California(加州旅店)排名第一。
开始,主音吉他缓慢而伤感,当一幕缓缓拉开,吉他声逐渐变得急促,那个故事是如此迫切地牵动记忆,这到底是个什么样的故事呢?在期待中,架子鼓开始有节奏而沉稳地敲打着,仿佛在平静主人的心绪。酝酿好了情绪,主音吉他在架子鼓上轻柔、随意地弹奏,仿佛在等待着什么。在它不急不忙的牵引下,美妙的双吉他有象潮水一样层层叠叠涌了出来,拨动着人的心弦,主音吉他也消失了,只有节奏吉他在不断地涌现着吞噬着,人差点醉死在这美妙的旋律中。故事还没有开始,听众已沸腾了。高潮过后,节奏吉他隐到背后,主音吉他重新出现,它深沉有力地弹奏着,仿佛男主人公伤感沉重的情绪,酝酿已久的故事终于开始了,主人公用他苍凉的嗓音在节奏吉他柔美的旋律中,开始讲起了关于加州旅店的故事......
其实这首歌的含义相当的隐晦,蕴藏着的邪恶和颓废......
连老鹰本人也指出这是一首描写吸毒的歌,距网友考证:"Eagles的 Glenn Frey曾在唱片的出版注释上专门注明过:"Hotel California is a metaphor for cocaine addiction"(《加州》暗喻着可卡因沉溺)." 这证明加洲的表面含义是跟毒品迷不可分了,但最最邪恶的是,加洲的另一种诠释.距国外网站上说,美国60年代洛山基市有一家精神病院的绰号就叫"加洲旅馆" ,看到这里,恍然大捂,老鹰在这首歌里描写的是一个病人进入精神病院的情景,所有的迷幻都是自己的内心的感受的投射.
六十年代是美国音乐界的自由创作时期,摇滚乐的流行成为六十年代自由与反叛思想的象征,然而其盛况也带来了商人无限贪婪的眼睛。吸毒和淫乱几乎成了每个摇滚手在七十年代走的同一条堕落之路,金钱与享乐成为了摇滚音乐在七十年代的新形像。
同为音乐人的老鹰乐团看到这样的事实,却无能为力。乐手们已经将这种沉迷的生活看成了是音乐界的常态,摇滚乐手们身边总充满了漂亮的面孔与漂亮的地点。对于外界的质疑,他们总是自我的原谅:放轻松点吧,我们是天生易于被诱惑。音乐界已经无法杀死金钱的这个心魔,即使某些个人可以暂时结束,却永远无法摆脱。Hotel California 自面世开始,立即就引来很多的质疑与批评。尽管谁也不敢夸口说自己的理解是正解版本,但歌词中明显的吸毒、性乱、邪教等暗示还是引起道德卫士的不满,并且在美国数州中受到宗教团体的杯葛。不过,《加州旅馆》歌曲中那成经典的吉他旋律、诡异莫名的歌词内容、感人心弦的悲世情怀,使得这首《加州旅馆》神秘永远,成为最爱。
尽管距离《Hotel California》这张唱片发行已经整整三十年,但是有关这首专辑同名曲的话题却一直不断地在继续着,而且时间拖得越久,其中的谜团似乎也是越来越多。更为重要的是,这首作品吸引的并不仅仅是音乐界的人士在关注,它在歌词表达上的抽象、神秘,甚至让许多语言学、符号学、宗教学的人士都对它产生了浓厚的兴趣,并因此留下了许多疑问。如在CD封底照片左侧第二个阁楼窗洞中依稀可见的身影,是否就是撒旦教教主拉维(首版LP的这张照片据说是在唱片封套内)?歌词中出现的“Tiffany Twisted”、“Colitas”等词和词组究竟是什么意思?“加洲旅馆”的创作蓝本究竟是哪座旅馆?更有甚者,为了利己的商机,而将托多期桑多斯的一家旅馆宣传成为《Hotel California》作品的创作根据地,虽然之后乐队核心成员Don Henley亲自反驳了这种子虚乌有的说法,但由于其流传的深远,直至今日依然会有无数的旅行者会对那座小镇旅馆深信不疑,并且拍照留念不亦乐乎,这倒真印证了“假作真时真亦假”的红语。不过,另有一件值得回味的事倒是“They Just Can’t Kill the Beast”一句,在Sound Forge软件的帮助下,由神职人员于逆向播放的状态中解出了“Satan Had Help,He Organized His Own Religion”(撒旦伸手援助建立自己的宗教)这样的解读作品“新密码”,而当这种说法和Eagles于1994年复出之际发行的《Hell Freezes Over》专辑封面下方那个红色魔鬼标志有幸相印证时,有关Eagles与撒旦亲密的关系,似乎更成了板上钉钉的“事实”。
当然,解读越多事情就会越复杂,而且很多解读的动机也必然会偏离解读原始的动机。我宁愿相信《Hotel Califonia》先是一首摇滚作品那么简单,既然是摇滚作品,它就会和历史上许多的诗人和摇滚艺术家的作品一样,充满着让世人难以解读的灵感和想像,因为你永远不能用正常的逻辑去判断一件艺术品的好坏,《Hotel California》很明显就是一首急就章般一笔而就的摇滚艺术品。它肯定借用了大麻的物质催化,所以作品自始至终充满了一些神秘的幻想、联想,以及抽象与印象的思维。但抛开这些幻觉给创作者的刺激之外,Eagles对于加洲梦梦归何处的反思精神,却显然是最核心的表达内容。
真正让这首作品在全球范围内走红的,反倒是Eagles1994复出后发行的《Hell Freezes Over》中收录的一首Unplugged版本,事实上也正是这首作品,让多数人知道了《Hotel California》和Eagles。不过,这首不插电版与原版相比,倒是并没有改编过多,哪怕是被人津津乐道的吉它Solo也几乎被保留了下来,但从音乐气质来讲,这两个版本更像是一首作品的青年版和中年版,以至于如不插电版总会给人一种摇滚长诗般的错觉,但其实加上鼓掌声和谢幕声,它也只不过比原版多了42秒。与此相比,1976年的原版听起来却无疑更显得像是一首古朴的摇滚酒歌,这大概就是青年与中年在持久性上的差异。
